Hmm. What if this went viral, and the street decided that contracting with the Federal government had become a high risk proposition? And so when the Feds went out to bid again, the only bids they get would be astronomical to account for the risk? And then, and then … oh my, the poor Feds!

Most businesses would be too busy doing profitable work at normal margins to bother with dealing with the scammers, so the politicians would either have to eat the risk-based prices or go back to hiring people and doing the work themselves.
